(sorry- just wanted to freak these guys out)

last night i got together with rach, sarah, niraj and kalani--- it was for some reason the first time all 5 of us had gotten together all summer to really hang out. so they all came over and then we left.

we planned a progressive dinner: first we went to puffabelly's for appetizers. usually we get fried green tomatoes and pickles, but the waiter told us they were OUT of the tomatoes! unfortunate...but rach and i were like "just bring us fried things"-- so we got the sampler platter~ fried pickes, onion rings, fried onion strips, fried jalapeno strips and jalapeno peppers. it was amazing and we all ate soooo much. after that, we were like "hmm.. do we really need to keep going? we're so full." but of course the answer was yes and we were off.

next was carabba's. we were so full, so we just ordered the mezzaluna (special raviolis that are wayyy yummy) and chicken marsala. our waitress seemed to be a little confused, so we told her what we were doing and she thought it was really fun.

finally we were off to grotto for dessert- this was wonderful because we went to a grotto for prom, so it was sort of like a mini prom reunion, minus a lot the people that had originally gone with us that we didn't really like (coughcoughcoughtequiladancoughcoughcough). kalani insisted that we order 3 desserts, so we did and they were amazing. it was so much fun! i think we should do this sometime in columbia- it's fun because you can get the best from each place you go to.

we came back to my house and then we drove all around spring playing car hide and go seek, just like we played in clarksville. each team had an instance of forgetting out boundary rules (oops! lol) but it was still lots of fun. regardless of what the boys said, us girls definitely won. we had much better clues, which is what matters.

so that was my last big hurrah before i leave, although i think i might see a few of them again before i leave. it was definitely a wonderful send off...

today i finished psych!!! well, i finished the lessons and the quizzes~ one final test left go go, but i'm going to take it in columbia.

i also got a haircut/color! very exciting~ i love having my hair a little darker. one of my mom's friends told me it was "stunning," so that made me happy about it.

tomorrow night i'm going to finally get together with my 4 closest friends from home. i've seen them each over the summer, but the 5 of us have yet to get all together!! of course i'm the "planner" so it took me to get us together lol. we're going to do a progressive dinner~ appetizers @ one restaurant, dinner @ another, dessert @ one more. then hopefully a rousing game of car hide and go seek. how fun are we? so much.

later dudes/dudettes~~~~

Hotel Gozlin

this weekend my grandma was supposed to take me, sam and my cousin ben who i get to see about twice a year if i'm lucky to galveston, but on tuesday she called to tell us that her leg has been bothering her a lot, so she wasn't really up to going to galveston. however, she did want us to come and stay the weekend with her downtown. she assured us that it would be like staying in a hotel-- she wouldn't cook at all lol. so we agreed~

i won't spare you all with some the boring details... but we pretty much had a really good time. the best part was getting to spend time with ben- he can make me laugh so hard i cry. i <3 that~ i love laughing so hard it hurts over something so inane and childish. whoa-- i think i slipped into kimmer's writing style there for a sec... lol j/k-- <3 ya Wife! ben is so fun- and i would love to be able to spend more time with him. he's going to be a senior this year, so he and i were talking a little about where he is looking at, college wise. he mentioned wash u and i got so excited, because then he would be sooo close! i doubt he'd actually go- he's an east coast kid- but it'd be amazing.

we did do some fun things~ we went to the galleria because they were having a showing of the artwork of john lennon. he did some really great pieces-- little tooooo much of yoko though for my taste. especially this one, "exotic #6," which featured a masturbating yoko. so enjoyable when you're hanging out with your grandma...

we also went to see "mad, hot ballroom." if you haven't heard of this movie, look it up and go see it! it's a documentary about these 5th graders living in poorer parts of new york that learn to ball room dance and compete in it! soooooo excellent. i bet they play it at the ragtag. i would totally see it again- the kids are so inspirational, and adorable.

also this weekend i finished the harry potter book [NOTE-- SPOILERS TO FOLLOW] i just cannot even believe that dumbledore is dead-- it is just too unfortunate for words. and wow i am just so pumped for the last book, even though i know it will not come for years probably. i was also quite sad when harry broke up with ginny. i understand why he did it- and i'm hoping they'll get back together when harry vanquishing voldemort, which i'm pretty positive will happen. i mean, wouldn't it be a giant letdown if it didn't? i think so.

anyway... i can't even believe this is my last week at home! i'm almost done with "enough" and with my psych course, so that's good. i am SO ready for this year-- while it will be SO busy, it is going to be SO much fun. i am psyched to start my job and to see all my friendsssss!!!! kisses to you all...

Fort Worth & TCU

so at the beginning of the summer my friend sarah and i talked about going to fort worth together for a weekend so that she could show me where she goes to school and to meet some of her friends. this past weekend we went- the following is the very interesting, but very fun account of what we did:

thursday: sarah picked me up and we left. we left at about 4:45 and the drive was supposed to take about 4 hours. we stopped for dinner around 6:30 at dairy queen and then kept going. around 8:00 was when the trouble started... we were driving on the highway and it started to pour- i think it was the heaviest rain i've ever seen in my entire life. it was just blasting us to the point where sarah could not see at all in front of her and so we pulled over to the shoulder. now, normally in spring/houston it rains heavily for a short period of time, but this happened to be a unique experience. it was torrential downpour for about 45 minutes. it was scary! we were pulled over, but the wind was blasting her car- it even started to shake! it also started to hail-- quel terrifying. finally we were able to keep driving, and got to her friend boy adam's apartment a little after 10.

[so adam and sarah had agreed that they were "dating." he didn't want for them to be exclusive for some reason, even though at one point he told sarah he might love her. there is a really long story behind their whole history (he was her TA first semester, not a grad student though)- but anyway, the point being, is that he was going to let us stay in his living room for 3 nights.]

we get there, and adam isn't by himself. there is a girl named jackie over with him, and it was quite obvious that they were pretty drunk. sarah sort of knew this girl a little bit, but she didn't know that she was friends with adam. apparently she had been over since 4 in the afternoon...she was a complete ditz. she was one of those girls that says "OH MY GAW" when something surprises her. i caught this and told sarah about it later, and it kind of became a fun little joke. but anyway...

they were obnoxiosly drunk, and jackie kept throwing herself all over adam! sarah was getting upset... we didn't end up going out that night, but couldn't go to sleep until about 3 because people wouldn't leave the living room which was where we were sleeping. sarah was mad...

the next morning we woke up around 10:30 or so, got ready and left around noon. sarah talked to adam about the night before, and he apologized- so before we left he actually talked with us and i decided i liked him ok. i had heard a lot about him from sarah, and he was finally starting to live up to what she had told me. so we left and then drove to TCU's campus. we met up with sarah's friend kristi- who was really, really nice. the 3 of us went for lunch and tcu's bookstore, and then they took me on a tour of campus. it's small, but beautiful. different from mizzou, definitely, but super nice. after that sarah and i went to the zoo. we had a fun time there, but only stayed for about 2 hours since it was SO hot. after that we went back to adam's apartment and after a while went to dinner (mexican food-- very yummy. plus, sarah and i ate for free since kristi dared me $20 to eat an entire jalapeno pepper, which of course i did) and then we all went to the movies to see "wedding crashers." this movie is HILARIOUS! i was not expecting much, but it was sooooooooo funny. only problem was...jackie joined us all again. at this point sarah was getting pretty annoyed. he was completely ignoring her when jackie was around and it was just getting a little weird. so that night (actually, way early saturday morning) sarah talked with him, and he randomly told her that he has decided that he isn't up for dating anyone, since he's going to be a senior this year and then he'll go to med school the next year. so... it's pretty much over between them. UGH boys. sarah thinks they were maybe just a little too different, socially speaking.

she was surprisingly calm and rational, which i completely admire. saturday we woke up around 10:30 again and went to central market to grab some lunch. we took it to the botanical gardens and ate there, and then we went to these 2 awesome museums- the kimbell and the modern. they were both pretty amazing- i <3 modern art. after the museums we went back to adam's again, and sarah decided that it might be a good idea to go and stay with kristi our last night. so we did that-- after we took our stuff to kristi's, we went to pick up sarah's friends allison and robert and we all went to dinner and a drive in movie!!!!! omg- drive in movies are so awesome. we saw charlie and chocolate factory, and i'm sad to say that i was a little disappointed. the ending was so shmaltzy... i just didn't enjoy it. and hello- tim burton is supposed to make creepy movies, not corny ones. it was still amazing being at the drive in though, so i had a great time with them.

we left this morning around noon, and it's nice to be home again but the heavy reading/planning for the fig will comence tomorrow. i had a really good time, even though at times things were a little awkward, but i met some really nice people and i'm happy to see that sarah has such a great campus and great friends. it was also so nice to spend a bunch of time with sarah, since she's been so busy this summer.

wow this could be the longest blog ever! sorry if it's a little random- i've been watching degrassi while typing.

i'm leaving for fort worth (aka-- T.C.U.) in a few hours to spend the weekend there with sarah. we are staying at her friend boy's apartment. i'm sure interesting stories are to follow...

i'm back!

hello friends~ i have returned.

i actually got back yesterday- but i didn't really feel like posting last night. i hope that doesn't offend anyone...

the trip was amazing for the most part. is it strange that i love being on a cruise ship, but i hate being on a ship? ughhh... the last day we were at sea all day (no excursions that day) and i stayed in bed all day because it was so rocky that if i had gotten up i would have been sick.

now that i got the complaining out of my system~ alaska is gorgeous! and the weather- my goodness. it was definitely 40 degrees cooler there than here in houston. i had tons of fun with mi familia, and i even had a creepi experience with this creepi kid that hit on me! wow it was the weirdest thing ever. if anyone is interested, i'll tell you the story sometime...

it's a very luxurious experience, being on a cruise. we did this fun-ness thing called "freestyle dining" which basically means they have a few restaurants/buffets, and you can just walk in and eat whenever you want to, and then you walk out without paying! i mean, they add it on your bill (duh) but it's the funnest thing walking into a restaurant, ordering, eating and then just walking out. tivoli deck was my fav spot-- a beautiful pool and 4 hot tubs. it's a strange feeling being in an uncovered deck, sitting in a hot tub when it's about 50 degrees and sprinkling rain. i adored it.

i also got to gamble for the first time! slot machines, baby. didn't win much, but it was a fun time.

we took fun excursions- typical alaskan things: lumberjack show, glacier gardens- you know. the usual... lol. if you want details/pictures, i can tell you/show you sometime.

after the cruise was over we spent 2 days in seattle. i think i could see myself living there someday. it's seriously so much fun, and they have a beautiful downtown which is a new thing for me. also they have the pike place market which is so amazing, a crazy beautiful farmers market that started in 1907 and has become humongous. i also enjoyed the "experience music project"-- it's pretty much a music museum! so much fun-- and who would have known, it was built by paul allen. anyway, music fans would enjoy this place a great deal.

fabulous trip~ now it's time to work. today i read a huge big chapter of psychology and the first 30 pages of "enough," in addition to sending about a million emails trying to get things organized and together for my return to como. so psyched!

i <3 packing

does that make me strange? so be it- i <3 to pack. i love putting clothes in little piles all over my bed, and finding shoes/accessories to match the limited wardrobe that i'll have with me.

i leave tomorrow- we're going to the airport at 7:30. it's a 4 hour flight to seattle. we'll leave at 10... and get there at 12. it's going to be the LONGEST day ever. but i'm sure it's going to rock.

i'll be back july 11. i wish you all a great first half of july, and i'll talk to you when i return!

door decs

so all of the business of this little problem i created is being sorted out, thankfully.

today i took my midterm for psych. i was a little worried about it, but then i went in to take it and it wasn't too bad. they gave me 2 hours to do this test of 60 questions: i finished in about 25 minutes... i probably got a few wrong, but most of them were way easy after i studied a ton. now i'll know what to expect on the final, so that's good.

we ran some errands after i got home from the library~ we went to old navy where i found a new jean jacket and a cute new tunic (i guess that's what you call them) and then we had lunch and sam and i got our eyebrows waxed.

the best part of today! last night when i was about to go to sleep, i randomly had this idea for door decs for the "kids" in my FIG!!! so i made them today: hopefully they aren't TOO corny, but i mean there isn't really a way to avoid the corny-ness in these types of things. here goes:

i went thru magazines and cut out 15 different ads. then i took each ad and cut it into 2 pieces. i took the 2 pieces and backed them on cute scrapbook paper (bright flourescent colors~ pink, orange, yellow, green, purple). i made 30 pieces (15 ads~ i'm sure i made too many, but i wanted to be able to pick and choose later) and i'm going to put a different piece on each FIGlets door. then i'm going to have them bring their pieces to our first little group meeting together, and instead of a getting to know you game (i.e. "i'm manicotti maxine!") i'm going to have them find their pair and then interview each other and present them to the whole group. we might also talk about how effective the ads are... but that could be getting a little too intense for our first group gathering. i've thought the idea over, and i really like it. i think it's something i would have enjoyed, and i'm kind of proud of myself for coming up with it. the pieces are super cute-- i cut some horizontally, some vertically and some diagonally in half. i'm super excited!

omg. so i tried to change the time on my post from last night, and so then it decided to republish as though i wrote it today! it gets pricey.

my mom was sooooooooooooooo frustrated. i didn't know what to do! she told me that i'd better call hilary, so i did. luckily, hilary was soooooo nice about it- and she said that if it were up to her, i could move my stuff into my room on the 5th and then organize it all the actual move-in day. she's going to ask the HC if i can do it, and she said even if i can't, she would let me move my stuff into her living room lol. so i suppose crisis is averted...

the thing that makes me so mad is that my mom was thinking about just staying until the 8th because my birthday is on the 7th, but i convinced her not to because i was pretty sure i'd be busy all day. i will actually be busy that day, but you know... ughhhh i almost never do things like this!! i can't stand it. i'm supposed to be responsible. it was so embarrassing to have to call hilary and tell her that i did this. she was so completely understanding about it-- i really want to make a better impression than this, because this is NOT typical me. ghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....it's ok now, but i'm still annoyed with myself.

dammit i did it again. it's already friday again and i haven't posted since monday. what have i even done this week?

tuesday was another fun-filled day at the temple~ this week it was water day, so all the kids came in their bathing suits (i was such a sport and came in mine too). we went outside on the back porch/back yard area and played all kinds of crazy water games. special "surprises" included water balloons (that sam and i filled monday afternoon) and shaving cream. ewww gross gross. the kids would take huge blobs of the cream and go up to people and smear it all over them. needless to say, as a "big kid" i was covered head to toe (even my hair! ew ew ew). and of course it was cheap man shaving cream so i stunk for 2 days after (even with showering! remember when i showered? lol).

wednesday... let's see. oh ok-- so after doing a bunch of reading/studying in the morning my mom had the bright idea that we probably need some kind of windbreaker/jacket for our trip to alaska (we leave july 2nd, fyi) so we first went to academy and couldn't find a single jacket! when my mom asked an employee about this he was a total jackass about it and was like "you're not going to find a single jacket anywhere in the south at this time of year." stupid jerk- like people don't want to leave this sauna? so ha ha then we went to oshman's and found a good selection of jackets (like the north face and columbia brands-- those kinds). my sister found one there but my mom and i didn't. so then we went to this new crazy outdoorsy person place called "gander mountain" and found even more jackets! stupid idiot at academy...so we all have jackets now. mine is a cute columbia one that is shades of purple and some white. aparently it's going to rain a lot, so my mom wanted us to have these kinds of jackets. whatever... i didn't have to pay for it. lol-- i also worked on wednesday night. blah blah blah these kids are so awful. the difference between these kids and the ones in columbia though is so strange. ok- so the kids in columbia sunday school have the worst behavior ever, but can actually read hebrew really well. the kids here in spring for the most part are pretty sweet, but most can't read hebrew that exceptionally. such a trade off... i still prefer the kids here though anyday. at least here i can work on teaching instead of just being a babysitter.

yesterday...studied more (i should be taking my midterm in the next few days- ha ha yeah... that's a different issue. i thought i was going at a fine pace, but all of a sudden i realized that because i'm going to be gone for 9 days in alaska and then 2 other weekends in july + the face that i'm going back to columbia august 2nd i don't think i'm going to finish the course before i head back. i of course freaked a little when i realized this, but now i'm pretty ok with it. as long as i can finish it before the end of this first semester, i'm good. i'd rather get a good grade on it since i'm pretty sure it will factor into my gpa) blah blah ran some errands with my mom etc. then rachie came over for our date. we went to dinner and then came back and watched a copy of our high school's version of les miserables. rach and i are both reading les mis right now, and it's so great to be able to talk about it with her.

so watching the high school version was SOOO strange. it just goes to show you what a basis of comparison can do. i remember thinking our production was SOOOO amazing, when in actualilty most of the kids sounded like complete amateurs (which i suppose they are...) but now that i've seen a real production of it, this version sounded so crappy. it was still funny to watch, and we managed to pick out a few people who were actually pretty decent. good times good times.

not sure what today has in store, but i know i want to go swimming when our neighborhood pool opens at 10, so i'm going to go. later days...

Incoming Call From: Ho Number 2

(lol- KT, did you remember that you are in my address book like that?) type='text'>CAUTION: the following is a very whiney blog in which i'm going to vent a lot~ i will not be offended if nobody wants to read it

so just when i thought i was starting to become a more relaxed person, i have one of my old freak out sessions. last night i was doing find~ i went over to sarah's for dinner and we hung out for a while. i came home around 11 because she needed to wake up early this morning or something. so i got all ready for bed or w/e and went to sleep at around 12. i was in bed for only a few minutes before i started to get the new pit in my stomach that i've been experiencing lately that i'm sure is so ridiculously unjustified but is there nonetheless about my upcoming PA job.

i don't know why i let my mind does this~ i'm sure that everything is going to work out fine, but i can't help these feelings right now. i feel very behind on planning a syllabus, even after emailing barry, and kind of concerned that i don't know a damn thing about advertising, yet i'm supposed to be helping out these freshmen who probably know more about it than i do seeing as it's what they want to do. i'm wondering if i should be researching, or already scheduling people to come to my class and speak? i'm also kind of frustrated because i sent emails to hilary and andrew beckett about 2 weeks ago with important questions, and still haven't received anything back from them yet. i figured email was the best way to reach them since i'm sure they're busy, but maybe i'll have to call them. i'm going out of town for 9 days in july, so i really would love to start figuring this stuff out now instead of trying to rush when i get back.

i write this stuff out, and i feel so stupid for worrying! i guess i'm just a little worried about this entire new situation in general and what next semester will bring. although i know that i love mizzou, i have great friends there and i'm sure this job is going to be awesome for the most part. so if i know this, why couldn't i fall asleep until 3 thinking about things in general?

i feel so ridiculous about all of this-- i know all of the facts and yet i'm still anxious and apprehensive. but i'm always like this, so i don't know why i expected now to be any different. i wish things didn't get to me so much...i'm so weird. i know i don't have some kind of psychological problem (lol my psych class is good for something) because i'm not constantly wracked with these feelings, but sometimes i just have these little freak outs! ahhhhhhhhhh...what is weird though is that i have these freak outs KNOWING that everything will be fine, i just have to let things run their course. i guess what's frustrating is that i'm not in columbia being able to work all of this out. w/e... i'm going to go now.

sorry if i sounded annoyed in my last blog~ sometimes you just don't really feel like updating even though you know you should because otherwise how are people going to keep up with your busy life! lol- yeah...

so yesterday morning started off a little rough for me-- i freak out at the weirdest times about the weirdest things. i was literally brushing my teeth and i started to think about how ridiculously busy i'm going to be this semester what with my job as a PA and taking 16 hours of class, many of these classes being very important since i want to start my sequence early second semester of this upcoming school year. i realized that although my job teaching sunday school doesn't seem like it would eat into my schedule very much, inevitably it will only cause me more stress- so i made the decision to not teach this year. this will be the first time since 9th grade that i won't be teaching some kind of class for a temple, so that will be a little weird-- i'm just worried about stretching myself too thin. after i made this decision i suddenly felt a little better, and i was able to have a good day after that.

i <3 shopping with my sister soooo much! so my aunt came over and we all went to the mall, and sam and i went off shopping on our own. we make perfect shopping partners! i usually have so much trouble finding clothes, but i think she's a good luck charm lol. [sidenote~ kimmer: i found a pair of jeans at express! they weren't quite as much as yours, but close-- and now i understand why you HAD to buy them, because when you find perfect jeans, you just have to go for it.] i also found a cute dress on sale at new york and co. that will be perfect for the cruise-and one of those cute shorty sweaters that ties in the front, which will also be good for the cruise. sam found some great stuff too~ we just have so much fun together all the time.

i kind of keep forgetting to update... i'm a little bit losing steam on this whole blog thing i think. oh well i'm trying... for my fans!

saturday was a day of utter and complete fun-ness. my sister and i had a full day of shopping~ just the 2 of us, which doesn't happen that often. we went to the champions area (these fun strip centers of nice shops include sur la table, the container store, francesca's, gap and victoria's secret). so we did the shopping thing together and splurged which is always fun. we also did went to buy lottery tickets (i realized that i had never bought one before!) and spent probably 2 hours at super target.

sunday night i went on a "date" with Boyfriend. he picked me up and we went to dinner at grotto and then to the movies to see mr. and mrs. smith. i hadn't really wanted to see it, but oh well fun times with Boyfriend. it's so weird when i go out with him because he knows practically everyone, and so of course he sees everyone everywhere we go and has to stop and say hello and i end up feeling awkward and old for the few minutes. then we walk off and i get to hear all the gossip about the people we just ran into, which is definitely an upside. not that i care about these peoples' lives, but listening to Boyfriend gossip is just fun. besides knowing everyone he knows everything about everybody, so it's always interesting. after the movie we drove around randomly and we drove to our old houses (like houses that we lived in growing up-- seeing as now we live a street away from each other). it was weird to see my old house... i barely recognized it the new people have changed it so much. gross people...

so then last night niraj and i got together-- we had a music "trading" party, and then drove around and got tcby after a while. it's so great to be able to just chill with my home friends. what's even greater is that lately i haven't really been calling anyone to get together, and my friends have actually been calling me to do things. this is probably a first for me, since i recently made this decision that i'm always the one to call people which can make a person feel a little dispensable, if you know what i mean. so i pretty much just hang out with my family and study psychology~ and if people call me, that's fun and i make plans with them. i'm trying to become more lacksidaisical (sp?) and less anal about these sorts of things.

today was another tuesday at the temple~ just when i start to think i hate kids, there are some cute ones that cause me to reconsider. i have a new little friend named carly~ she's new to the temple, 9 years old, and super sweet. fun times...

tonight we went to nit noi, a fun thai place for dinner. we got curry just like in georgia! and it was really good. it could be one of my new favorite foods, quite enjoyable.

ok sorry if this has been totally random-- i wasn't fully in the mood to do this, but it needed to be done lol.

so yesterday was a pretty laid back day-- didn't do much besides reading (psych and les mis), and then sarah and i went to see the sisterhood of the traveling pants. when the book first came out (i think we were in 8th grade or something) that book was really special to us because we had a little group of 4 best friends just like the pants girls. it was me, sarah, rach and dana-- we did everything together, and the book was kind of cool in that way. things aren't exactly the same now- i'm still tight with rach and sarah, but not so much with dana anymore, so seeing the movie without her (rach had wanted to see it with us last night but she had to leave for out of town earlier than she had planned, and she told us to go ahead and see it without her) was a little strange--- but it was a pretty cute movie, and yes i cried. geez-- nowadays i cannot get out of a movie like that without shedding a few tears. i guess i'm growing soft in my old age...

today was my sister's confirmation. at our temple this is when a student finishes their formal education (i.e.-- sunday school) so in a way it's kind of like graduation, but it's a time for them to reaffirm their beliefs and ideas about their religion. so anyway... it's a big deal and all of the parents get together to plan for the dinner before the service for family and the oneg (dessert in the social hall) afterward. my mom had a lot to do with the planning, so this morning i helped her arrange trays of cookies and desserts. in the afternoon i read some more, and then i got ready and we headed back over to the temple. dinner was pretty traditional~ salad, chicken, steamed veggies (ew...), mashed potatoes, lol and of course gefilte fish and chopped liver (ewwww some more, except i kind of like gefilte fish a little- don't tell on me).

then came the service--- my sister read a big portion of hebrew (the first 3 of the ten commandments, since the holiday confirmation falls on is shavuot which celebrates when the commandments were first given to the people), and she did really well. all in all, very impressive- and it was really nice to see her entire class getting along so well seeing as mine... well... my class had issues, constantly, and we were always really divided- whereas hers gets along really well for the most part.

and speaking of my class, i actually saw 3 people at services tonight from my class! and 2 of them were actually people i actually really like- a friend named shaina who goes to a&m, and jacob (coughcoughmaxine'sfirstboyfriendfromseventhgradecoughcoughcough-- lol, he's a good guy) who goes to asu. it was nice to catch up with them a bit- obviously we're not that close of friends or anything, but we have a really long history with each other~ since kindergarten, at least.

when i was talking to shaina about mizzou, she was asking me if i had known anyone going there beforehand and she told me i was brave for taking that risk. i guess i've never thought too much of it, but i feel choosing to go to mizzou is probably one of the best decisions i've ever made and i couldn't be happier anywhere else. lol- sorry to get all corny.... i'm tired now~ being pensive can do this to a person. goodnight...

in a much better mood!

so i was messing around on the internet and i decided to see if the israeli culture class i really wanted to get into for this semester happened to be open now, and lo and behold there were 2 open seats!!! so i dropped the history class i kind of added as a last resort (lol no offense kim) and am now in israeli culture! i am so excited for this class for many reasons. i've heard it's an awesome class and that the prof is amazing, somehow this class is honors yet pass/fail (so says the course catalog), and i feel it will be a fun class for me, and also my first smaller college class! (only 14 seats in the class). in addition, before i changed the schedule i would have had class MWF at 10, and now i'll only have M and W at 11 (until 12:15), and only one class on friday, which isn't until 1! (too bad that's the 2 hour one, but oh well if it's my only class that day!) this is just good in so many ways...

UGHHHHH

can i just say that i officially hate it when people are like "hey, let's hang out such and such night-- i'll call you" and then they don't call you at all and expect everything to be ok? am i the only person that takes this for a plan and actually clears my schedule for this? everyone always ends up having an amazing excuse, i'm just sooooo tired of it. i can understand if you have to break a plan, i guess, but please just let me know! it doesn't take much-- a quick call/email will suffice- i promise i'm not THAT high maintenance.

note- this isn't directed toward anyone who actually reads my blog. i promise i'll write something more interesting later. i just had to rant a little bit and my mom isn't home right now- lol.

BINGO WONDERLAND!!!

so today was fun because my sister got home from galveston, and so we ran some errands with my mom and then went out for lunch to the 59 diner which is always yummy. then we came home and i did more psych and read more of les mis until dinner time. in the afternoon rachie called me and invited me over to watch the tape of our school's production of les miserables later tonight and i was like "heck yes!" so i had planned for that, but then Boyfriend called me later and was like "we should go bingo-ing tonight!" and i was like "ooooh! that sounds even funner!" so we called rach and decided to bingo tonight instead and watch les mis on wednesday night after we both get off of work.

mmmm bingo wonderland... the grossest, smelliest, fullest of old people place on earth. but we love it, and almost always get threatened by the hardcore bingo-ers. (tonight was no exception, of course) we like to mess around-- tonight it was with kalani's new picture phone-- and we always daub each other too. we sit in the non-smoking section, but of course you cannot escape from the place without smelling of smoke- but the $1 for 6 hush puppies helps to make this worth it. we never have won money (you can win up to $700!) but it's the experience that makes it fun. tonight we were even shushed by people younger than us, so that's always a good sign... kalani also drew us this fun diagram tonight of all these high school creeps that he's been friends with this year... you know the obnoxious "A crowd" snobs with the stuck up bitches and boys who shave their legs and go tanning. that was interesting and silly--- we don't actually care about these people, but it's always fun to listen to Boyfriend tell stories.

after bingo of course comes cinnamon rolls at kalani's house (this is a major tradition) and just hanging out~ i of course baked the cinnamon rolls, because i am kalani's domestic little woman, and he food colored our water as usual. i <3 hanging out with kalani and rach- so fun and carefree. i always have a great time with them because we can have an awesome time while remembering other awesome times we've had ("remember when..." lol). and of course bingo-ing always provides a wonderful chance for us to be totally silly. i <3 all of my new friends at mizzou, but it's been nice these past few weeks to be with my old friends, and summer is not even close to being over yet! more great times to come...

just call me the early bird

ughhh so for some reason over the past few days i have not been able to sleep very late! i've been going to bed around 1 or so and waking up at like 8:30 or 9. i'm not quite sure what the deal is, but it is sad considering i'm not good at taking naps in the middle of the day. anyway....

thursday night at niraj's was so much fun! he cooked dinner for us (mmmmm! he's such a good barbequer, if that's even a word) and then we watched this amazing indian movie. it's from 2001 i think, and it's called Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. it was soooo good! awesome message, and besides that the dancing and singing featured in each indian movie is spectacular. (kimmer~ if you liked bride and prejudice, this is just as good! and with subtitles!) niraj even had the soundtrack to the movie, so i borrowed it and it's now on my iTunes. hooray for stealing other peoples' music! lol

friday night i chilled at home with sam, because she left yesterday for a weekend retreat to galveston. [she's officially on the board of SPRIFTY, my temple's branch of NFTY (youth group) and so this was an exec. retreat for planning etc.]

last night i went to good ole puffabelly's (you've probably seen my shirt) with rach and sarah. apparently on the first saturday of every month they feature bluegrass music, so of course we had to check it out. there was this cute little band of older people that entertained us while we ate our fried green tomatoes and pickles and our entrees. so we were about ready to leave, when one of the older guys brings up his 3 daughters to the little stage. the youngest one had just turned 10, and the others couldn't have been older than 15 or 16. they picked up instruments, and their dad announced that they were a band and had just been to nashville to record their album. and omg they were amazing! they made me feel so talentless. they were like young, brunette dixie chicks. each could sing and play an instrument really well. and to top it off~ the best singer was the 10 year old! ahhhhh: note to self- must get talent or i will end up living vicariously thru my children- lol.

we went back to rachie's to watch napoleon dynamite ("i wish you would get out of my life and shut up!" is my new personal favorite line) and to hang out. fun times with my ladies...coming up tonight is the little meet and greet with our temp rabbi who i've already blabbed on about and i'm sooooooooo excited for, so hooray for good changes!

oh oh oh- i almost forgot 2 fun things: 1) today dave called me! it was so good to hear his voice and to talk for a few minutes and 2) i finished the first "episode" of les miserables! it's still amazing, and now i'm at the part where jean valjean is going to get cosette, which makes me very, very happy.

totally random updates

oops. so i haven't updated in a few days, but for some reason it feels like so long since the last time i wrote! not that i've been up to all that much~ plenty of stuff to keep me busy though. i've been keeping up with the psych, gazelle-ing and reading more of les mis. wow this is a book that i would highly recommend to anyone that is up to the challenege. i really love the way that it's written, and so far the musical does a good job of representing the true plot. i love it when books/movies/plays/musicals do that-- i hate it when a book is amazing and then a musical/movie recreates it and it is awful. sort of like the first harry potter movie, and ok i haven't actually seen the musical of wicked yet but i've read the plot and part of me is a little afraid to see it. i just have to remind myself to enjoy the musical, and not think about all the plot imperfections. sometimes i am so ridiculously anal...

oooh i did see FINALLY see the season finale of gilmore girls, and i just have to say that right now i HATE rory gilmore. i'm sorry but i think she is acting like such a baby. just because one person tells you that you might not make a good journalist is NOT a good enough excuse to "take a break" from college. enough if you decide not to be a journalist anymore doesn't mean that you should quit school- if anyything, just switch your major! i mean c'mon- she loves reading (probably as much as kim adams) so why doesn't she just go for an english degree or something like that! ughhhhhhhhh... just because you have a degree in one thing does not mean that you have to necessarily have a job directly relating to it!!!!

wow that was scary... sorry.

in other news, i ordered new sunglasses! (kimmer~ remember when mine broke in J1100? yeah... they really can't be fixed) so these new ones are so awesome~ they're more of a rectangular shape, and they're greenish-blueish. totally awesome.

tonight is Indian Night with niraj and rach! i'm totally psyched~ niraj has tons of these amazing indian movies- we're going to watch one, and he's making us chicken tikimisala (sp?) so i'm very excited. now we just need to attend an indian wedding and we'll be set! lol

oh oh- one more thing. better than ezra has a new CD! and iTunes had it, so i bought it! hooray for BTE...

awwww aren't the little kids cute, sneaking beer under the table?

so this weekend pretty much consisted of me going to a bat mitzvah, hanging around my house with sam (we even made shirts yesterday- i'm sure you'll see me wearing mine around~ this very bizarre inside joke of ours is written on it) and last night i stopped by Boyfriend's graduation party.

don't get me wrong- i had a pretty good time. hey- i got lei-ed~ what more could a girl ask for? it was obviously a hawaiian themed party~ mr. man (kalani's dad) owns this hawaiian party planning company and so of course it was all crazy and done up. there was even a show with dancers and singing of polynesian songs and such. i saw marianne and mina- friends from high school newspaper- and that was fun to talk with them a little bit. ooh and the food was amazing, although i did steer clear of the poi.

the part that weirded me out was seeing all these "kids" drinking. they're obviously only a year younger than me, but for some reason it was just so weird to see kalani sneaking them beers/cups of wine. i still am unresolved about my feelings on drinking- part of me is like "what the hell- why don't i just do it?" and then this other part of me is like "i just don't get it. we're obsessing about beverages?" and throwing up? i don't think i could handle doing something that i know could potentially make me throw up. throwing up is definitely on my top ten list of the worst experiences ever. i don't mean to make this sound like a rant. it's a very tricky subject for me-- i might drink on our cruise in july, but i know that even if i did it would be like 1 thing in a setting.

oh well- now that i'm on staff i have a good excuse not to drink. the decision has been made for me, because for those of you who don't know- i'm such a "goody goody" that when i try to do things outside of this i pay for it, just because that's my luck. meh- life could be worse.

is it wrong to <3 your Boyfriend and your Wife the same amount?

so the rest of my wed. was fun~ read a lot (i've actually read about 1/10 of les miserables! and it's still good!), went to work at about 6 until 8. then i came home and sarah came over. we hung out and watched the taped last american idol. she left at around midnight and then i went to sleep a little later.

yesterday i got up- gazelle-ed and showered (this is quickly becoming my new daily regiment) and ran some errands with my mom. we went over to the temple, and our old rabbi was there! i haven't seen him in a lonnng time. he's the rabbi who i had known since i was little and did my bat mitzvah~ he had to retire when i was in 10th grade because of a medical issue. so that was cute- then we went grocery shopping, which i absolutely adore. especially when i can persuade my mom to buy fun new things- this trip i found sweet potato pancake mix. i think i shall try them for dinner tonight...

then i came home, had lunch and was about to start reading some psych when Boyfriend called. i went over to his house and we hung out: we played skip bo, i looked at his senior scrapbook that he made for english class but mostly we played around on the facebook. he is new to it, and of course obsessed. he provoked a little war with Wife (since my profile now says i'm in an open relationship with kalani man) and it made me sad because i still <3 my Wife so much! they both have very special places in my heart. i think the real solution to this problem would be to get a real boyfriend- lol. i kind of like having a Wife and a Boyfriend though. it's good for the soul...

after a while we went to barnes and noble, where i found travel sequence! have you guys played that game before? it's so much fun. and now i have a travel version of it to bring on our trip/cruise! quel exciting is the only way to describe it.

today i (what else?) woke up, gazelle-ed, showered, got ready and then we went to see this new car my mom wants. it's a saturn vue- pretty cute. of course she had to talk financing, so sam and i watched a makeover story on the tv they have there while we waited. after that we went to lunch at schlotsky's (i really hope you guys have schlotsky's- otherwise, you are all deprived children) now i'm home and about to do some psych for real this time and then maybe read a little les mis. tonight and tomorrow is a bat mitzvah and then sunday night is kalani's graduation party~ fun times!

Harwin and Rachie's

yesterday was a really fun day. my mom, sam and i woke up around 9 and left at about 10 to go to harwin! it's this long street in houston and they have all these crazy little stores where they sell jewelry, purses, hair things for really cheap. the stuff all starts to look the same after a few stores, but it's way fun. i found this adorable black purse for about $20 that probably would have been 40-50 in a dept. store, a pair of cute earrings for $1.97 (!) and a cute hair scarf for about $5 i think. have you seen the cute-ness of hair scarves? i officially love them, and i got the idea from my sister-- she is just such a trendsetter~ they make you look quel 70s. so after a little shopping we went to this cute deli to eat, and we all had chicken shwarma~ this my mom's new favorite trend. it's pretty much chicken that tastes like falafel, if you haven't heard of it. it's pretty tasty- my mom thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread.

so we got home in the afternoon- i did some more psych and after gilmore girls i helped my mom with dinner. at around 7 i went over to rachie's house- we have a date set for thursdays, but she needed to switch days this week. we watched the movie "empire records" which is the movie she and her roommate always watch when they can't decide what to watch (i guess kind of like simpsons for us...) and it's a cute movie. i was a little disappointed because the dvd box mentioned that better than ezra music was featured, but you could barely hear a tiny clip of the song for about 2 seconds. oh well- it was still good.

after the movie we went downstairs to talk with her mom, and eventually her mom went to bed and we had really great catch up conversation about everything that's going on in our lives. it was amazing to discover that we are going thru similar friend situations (kinda sorta), and a lot of the stuff she's been learning in her education classes is similar to what i've been learning about in soc, so we had fun conversation about that.

she also told me about this book she's reading-- it was written by this marriage counselor person, and his theory is that there are 5 "love languages" that people use in any kind of relationship and that sometimes people can have a troubled relationship because their love languages are confliciting and causing friction. i asked her what love language she thought i used, and she said i'm definitely a "quality time" person. [i think this sounds pretty accurate, comments? lol] she said that she's a physical touch person (pretty self-explanatory), her roommate jessica is an affirmation person (apparently she needs to talk thru everything and she needs people to voice things that for other people might not need to be voiced), and that her awesome younger brother merritt is a gift giver. this sounded pretty interesting, so i might have to read the book sometime.

i got home at around midnight and went to bed. this morning i've woken up, gazelle-d, showered, and now i'm about to read some more psych.

oooh one more note of amazing-ness: so my sister goofed up and missed taping half of the season finale of gilmore girls last week. but today the paper said that they're going to replay it next tuesday because apparently it went over 30 seconds, and so a lot of people complained because their recorders stopped too early!!! i'm so happy. isn't that sad?

drama at the synagogue-- oxymoron? i think not

first i've decided to cut the capitalizing-- too much work.

today i went to temple with my family- it was the last day of sunday school for this year, and they needed a sub for the 5th grade class. it was only for half an hour though, because of the end of the year ceremonies (perfect attendance certificates, gifts for the teachers, etc.)

during the closing ceremony there was a special presentation for our rabbi. he's leaving (i'm sure i've told some of you the drama) because we couldn't offer him enough money, even though we were offering a ridiculous amount (in my opinion... i don't think i'll go into the exact numbers, but it's a LOT.) i'm kind of glad he's leaving- he's never been my favorite guy- and since my mom is going to be on the board of trustees now, she's kind of been involved in the drama. she found that when the rabbi took the job, he told our president that he was only taking the position because he needed a job. that's why i almost choked today when he said "being a rabbi is not just a job... it's more of a calling." utter ridiculous-ness.

anyway, so now that the rabbi is going to be leaving~ we need a new one. but guess who our interim rabbi is going to be?! my uncle seymour!!!! it's so perfect how things work out sometimes. so he and my aunt just moved here recently (to houston- because my aunt got a job as a religious school director at a temple in houston) and my uncle happens to be an ordained rabbi! he's never really been a practicing rabbi though- he writes books and such-- but when my mom found out we need a new rabbi for a while, she was like "hey- you guys should call seymour!" so they did, and everybody loves him, and he's going to be our rabbi for a year or so!!! that is just so exciting-- he's the coolest guy ever. i have this feeling he'll be just what we need- he's definitely a more spiritual and contemporary kind of guy- i love him to pieces! i can't wait for everyone at our temple to love him too.

ok wow so i'm sure this was so boring... if you stuck with this, congrats to you! lol--

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://smaxdilweed.blogspot.com/2005/05/drama-at-synagogue-oxymoron-i-think.html' title='drama at the synagogue-- oxymoron? Besides the fact that I had to wake up early, anyway. But the reason I woke up early was a good one-- my mom and I left to go to the Galleria @ around 9 and so we had about 2 hours to spend there by the time we got there. We went to Charlotte Russe and I found more jeans, a ho-ish top (hooray Kim I finally found one!) and a cute skirt. I didn't really find anything else at the stores we went to, but I thought that was a good purchase. Oh I did buy a new Fossil wallet at Foley's- but that's not very exciting.

Then we went to a birthday lunch for my Aunt Sharon. There were about 10 people there (family and such), and of course they were all like "Maxine! Wow! Hi! Are you already on summer vacation? How's Mizzou? (love it) That's great! What are you up to this summer" and blah blah blah. At least it was Mexican food, and it is always funny to see my mom and Aunt Sharon together because they kind of act like they're 5, so basically like Sam and me.

We came home after lunch, and then at around 5 Rachie came and picked me up with her roommate/awesome friend Jessica who came in for the weekend from Boerne, TX. We went to Kroger and Hollywood Video and then came back and cooked a full meal! Mmmm it was yummy- enchiladas, rice, beans and a blueberry pie per my request! Mmmmmmmmm it was great. Then we watched Gone With the Wind. What a frustrating movie- you feel bad for Scarlett, but she's such a spoiled, selfish brat at the same time. So that took years to watch and then I came home and went to sleep. Good times with Rach...and we have plans to hang out every Thursday, so this was a great first Thursday.

how did this happen?

hmmm... so somehow i ended up with a slightly better GPA this semester than first semester. Of course this is going to be about my friend Sarah. We've been best friends since fifth grade, but obviously things aren't exactly the same now (or even a year ago) as they are now. I don't know if you guys remember me getting frustrated with our situation over the past semester, but I'd been growing a bit weary. But 2 nights ago we talked about things, and last night I went over to her house. We just hung out, talked and watched the second Bridget Jones movie. I might even go with her on a visit to TCU/Fort Worth next month. As much as I complain about the girl or shit that we go thru, I think we'll always maintain a friendship. Things always go back to normal whenever we are together, and she is one of the few people who knows everything about me and vice versa.

That was last night~ Today my mom woke me up at 9 and I went to get a haircut (finally!-- I really should find a place in Columbia...). I've decided to grow out my hair, but I wanted something fun. So she did the cute little side slash bangs- you know what I'm talking about. It's still pretty long, I basically just got a trim otherwise, but it looks different enough that I'm happy with it. I think I'm like Erika about my hair, except for while she loves coloring hers frequently I love getting a different haircut each time I get it cut. I get bored, and coloring can get obnoxious so I think this is the simplest and most noticeable way to do something about it.

After my haircut we ran over to the temple- my mom needed to pick up some vases from the storage closet because she's in charge of making centerpieces for the oneg (reception) at my sister's conformation next month. We ran into Sharon (she's the director of our religious school and a close family friend) and she told us about "Tuesdays at Temple" a cute little program they're going to have during June for little kids. She invited us to help out, so that will be something else I can do over the summer. Also, tomorrow night I'm going to start helping out again with Bar/Bat Mitzvah training- I did that all during high school, so it should be interesting to go back and see who's in the class now.

We went for lunch, then my mom had a quick dentist appointment and now we're home. I just read some more for psych (so far they've talked about major concepts that I already learned in statistics- random sample, population, random assignment, etc.) and now I think I shall make another effort with Les Mis, since I only ended up reading 6 pages yesterday because I stopped to do something else.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Mmmmm today I slept until 10 while my sister had to wake up at 5:45 or w/e time she has to wake up. So then I got up and Gazelled for 2 miles (30 minutes), and was excited to discover that it burns more calories than walking for 2 miles on the treadmill! That's fun stuff.

After that I watched Gilmore Girls for a little while and then took a shower. After that I sat down with my online course packet and began to investigate this business. I don't think it's going to be that bad, which I'm excited about. There are 8 lessons, you have to do a quiz online after each one, and then there is a midterm and a final which I have to have proctored. But that won't even hard because apparently I can just go to a library, and the public library is about 10 minutes from my house. So I began to read the first lesson, and it is quite intriguing already! Which is just great.

Then I decided to begin reading Les Mis!! Wow I do not know if this book is going to be completed sometime in my lifetime. I hope that it shall be~ cheer me on!

So yes, I did stay home all day today. But it was a fine day of being lazy, yet not. Tonight we're going to make fried green tomatoes with dinner! Ahhh quel exciting!!! What a crazy movie~ Fried Green Tomatoes. The first time I saw it I hated it, but then I decided I like it the second time I saw it. It's very cute and very southern- I just hate Mary Louise Stewart. I think that's what her name is- she was also the ho-tastic (emphasis on the word "ho") in the movie Saved. Ok so I suppose I've rambled on enough. Later babes, whoever might be reading this~

First day home~

So is it strange that I'm already getting worried about my work load for next semester?

It started when I got an email from Andrew Beckett telling me the times for the FIG class. They are all in the afternoons, right when I have class pretty much every day. Luckily I was able to pick Wednesday at 3, right before Cross-Cultural- so hopefully that's ok with Dr. Bolls.

Then I went on the facebook to update my profile and I was putting in all my classes. I had kind of wanted to make another class honors this semester, but I'm not sure if that's going to work out since I'll already have 15 hours, more like 18 in October, plus this new job. I guess I'll just do 2 second semester when I don't have a FIG class to worry about.

I'm sure I'm overreacting- I know I shouldn't even be thinking about this now. But I'm just completely ridiculous like that.

I've already been having so much fun with my mom and Sam. This morning we went to Old Navy (hooray! they really need to build one in Columbia) and then to lunch at this crazy place. It's called "Barry's Pizzeria" or something, so I figured "Oh, cute Italian place"-- it was totally different. It was like being at a steak house, or a kind of bar or something...very interesting. So the food was mediocre and kind of overpriced, so I don't think we'll be going back. It doesn't really matter though~ It's just a blast being home.

I haven't gotten together with any friends yet, but I'm okay with this. I think I'm not going to freak out about trying to spend tons of time with people anymore~ I kind of did that over winter break and it was not a fun time. I think I'm going to apply this philosophy to more parts of my life- I'm a little wound up/high maintenance at times (I know! Shock, right?) and I think I'm going to have to calm it wayyyy down otherwise I'll break myself. Can one break themselves? Well, I fear I might if I'm not careful.

Hope everyone is having fun at home so far...I'm off to go thru my room and get rid of things I don't need. Fun, huh?

hmmm this thing is confusing...

So I realized I have a typo in the heading of my first post, so I tried to fix it but it wouldn't let me! Oh well...hopefully I'll have an exciting enough summer that you guys will even want to read this!

Anyway... So I'm home now! It's great to be home again, even if it is 80+ degrees outside. My mom and Sam picked me up at the airport, and then we came home and I immediately started to unpack. Does this make me a freak? According to them it does, but I'm pretty much sooooo fed up with packing/unpacking in general I just wanted to be done.

So I did that, and then I showed them all the new pictures on my computer. After that I checked my email and found 2 emails from Andrew Beckett: and so the soul-sucking begins. Lol- not really. I'm seriously going to remain calm and rational about all of this. I don't want to be one of those obnoxious people who has nothing else to talk about besides ResLife, so you guys will have to help me. I found out that my co-fac is Dr. Paul Bolls, so of course being the creepy stalker I am, I googled him. He looks like a fun, jolly kind of guy, so hopefully that will go well.

Ok well I hope this is enough for my first post...We'll see if I actually keep up with this.
